Scribe is the ultimate text processing plug-in. Use it to read and write text from Microsoft Office and PDF files, find what changed in a text field, and highlight text matching any criteria.

Scribe can read and write Excel documents. Scribe can read and write any cell in Excel (Excel 2007 or later). For example, let’s say that a vendor or client of yours uses Excel order forms that you need to enter into your FileMaker database. With Scribe, you can create a FileMaker script that will read all of the order form fields and insert them into FileMaker fields with no manual data entry! Because Scribe can also write to Excel, you could do the same thing in reverse too: Use data in your FileMaker solution to automatically fill out an Excel order form.

Scribe can read and write Word documents. Scribe can find and replace text in Microsoft Word documents (Word 2007 or later). You can use this to create customized documents from templates in Word. It can also retrieve field names, and read and write form fields in Word created with the Content Controls feature of Word.

Scribe can read and write PDF forms. If you have a PDF form that users download from your web site and then send back to you, you can use Scribe to automatically read their form inputs and insert them into fields in FileMaker records. Since Scribe can also write to PDF fields, you could use this to automate a workflow that requires you to fill out PDF forms and send them to somebody else.

Let’s say that you’re storing documents in FileMaker. You can store the documents in a container, but how will your user be able to search for the documents? The answer is Scribe. It will extract all of the human-readable text from any Word, Excel, PDF, HTML, RTF file, or even JPEG metadata. This text can then be stored in a searchable, indexed field in FileMaker so that your users can search for any document based on its contents!

Rich Text Format (.rtf)

HTML (.html, .htm)

If you have a database with word documents, and you want to be able to search on the contents of those documents, you need Textractor! Just store the extracted text in an indexed field in FileMaker, and do searches on that.

Regular Expressions, or ‘regex’ for short, are a very powerful set of text manipulation and pattern matching libraries that have existed on UNIX for decades but which are only now available in FileMaker Pro. Regex allows you to build incredibly flexible search and replace functionality into your scripts and calculations to do things in a one-line calculation that would take many pages of scripting to accomplish with FileMaker’s built-in text handling functions like ‘substitute’, ‘middle’, and ‘position’:

Validate e-mails

Convert special characters

Strip out HTML codes, leaving plain text

Find every link in an HTML document

Case-sensitive text processing

In addition, we’ve added a highlighting feature which allows you to highlight all of the matching text patterns, instead of replacing them. This allows you to easily do things like:

Add a “Google” feature to your FileMaker searches which highlights search terms in the results

Flag items in text. For example, if you were writing a proposal in FileMaker and put all of the [missing items that you need more info on] in square brackets, you could make all of those items appear in red.

PrinterSwitch from myFMbutler is one of those plugins which just does exactly what it says on the tin! It allows you to switch printers from with FileMaker and it does it well!

It can also be used to workaround the FileMaker runtime’s limitation of not being able to output to PDF files, as it comes with a virtual PDF printer which you can use to dynamically create PDFs from FileMaker output.

Features:

switch printers on the fly from within your FileMaker application

send dynamic FileMaker output to PDF, using the filename and location of your choice

select any printer driver that is installed on your system

A single user license costs $80, but if you have ever been frustrated by multiple printer issues in FileMaker, this will most likely seem a very reasonable price. A developer license supporting an unlimited number of applications with each upto 25 users is also available for $825.

Safeguarding your data is an important, and often daunting, task. We at CNS Plug-ins want to help ease your mind. CNS Audit is a plug-in that takes the headache out of creating an Audit Trail of your data. Whether you just want peace of mind about being able to get a record back that you have accidently deleted or if you have to comply to regulatory mandates like HIPAA, you can use CNS Audit to create an Audit Trail of your data within minutes.

Features:

Easy Setup – You can literally start keeping an Audit Trail of your database within a minute of installing CNS Audit.

Small Footprint – CNS Audit only needs 2 fields per table and a Limited Delete Privilege for every Privilege Set defined to create the Audit Trail.

Simple Functions – CNS Audit’s main logging function only takes 2 parameters, both of which are the two fields you add to your table. CNS Audit’s access log function also only has 2 parameters, and only one of them is actually required.

Complete Logging – CNS Audit is a full field-level auditing plug-in, logging not only the current table, but also every related table in the current context.

Extensive Setup Dialog – If CNS Audit’s default logging preferences do not completely suit your situation, you can use the Setup Dialog to define exactly which fields to log as well as any Custom Log Fields you need. In the 1.0 version release, the Setup Dialog will have even more.

Custom Log Fields – Add Custom Log Fields to the database where you define calculations to evaluate for the values of the Custom Log Fields.
